Logo Design & Update

Ah, it's been a while!

Above is a logo concept for South Coast Computer Solutions.

For the past month I've been searching for Freelance work & permanent work. Graphic Design is slowly but surely becoming more & more popular on the South Coast, with businesses recognising that expanding & updating their branding brings new customers & clients. Email me today to discuss how we can better your image and expand to people who may have otherwise overlooked your business.

Weddings & All Things Worth Celebrating

Isn't it just wonderful when you receive an invitation in the mail. Even better when they look 'schmicky-dicky'. You feel all warm & fuzzy inside, knowing that someone wants to spend a special day with you. The store bought ones can be a bit over-used I must say. Especially when you're at that time in your life when all your friends are getting married and your fridge door is piled up with five of the same old invite.

Then there are the online ones where you just type in your name & you get what you're given when it turns up at your door step 5 weeks later (in the wrong colour). Wouldn't you love the freedom of talking to someone about exactly what you want? Or let someone else worry about what font to use and what colour to put where? That's what Designers are for! And I would be more than happy to create your Wedding Invitations, 21st Birthday invites, and excite your friends when they receive a "We're having a Baby" notice.

An Invite for your event designed at a reasonable & competitive price. I can even set them up just how your printer wants them so that you can spend less time worrying.

So how about it? Don't you deserve to be the centre of attention for a little while? Don't your friends deserve to have something a little bit different on their fridge door? Yours might even make it to the top of the pile!

Above is my latest Wedding Invitation Design.

Why Design is 100% Wonderful.

An Answer to the question, "is graphic design right for me?"

When you choose Graphic Design you are not merely choosing a career path. You are choosing to give up your naivety. You are choosing to live this. You will breathe every element of form and function. You will experience the frustration of relying on every keyboard shortcut in real life. You are giving up your ability to dismiss a typeface for 'just another font’.

Like an English Literature student has all of their beloved movies destroyed by camera angles and pathetic fallacies. You will never look at another billboard, website, logo, book cover, mailing flyer, font, Windows computer the same way.

But it is the best thing you will ever do. Being creative for the rest of your life, solving problems through design. Educating other people on what looks good, one ‘Ban-Comic-Sans’ petition at a time. Having the ability to change the world just by making it that little bit more beautiful. Do it, you know you want to.

I have something to tell you...

I'm going to go a bit off topic today. Not too far though so keep reading!

If you haven't heard already, Dion & I have recently been approved for a new little rental property all to ourselves. Which is really exciting & we're both super happy to be able to have a place that we can call our own.

The problem however, lies with the fact that we will now both be paying rent, electricity, food, petrol, car registration & just general living expenses. "So what?" you may say, "Everybody does it right?" Yep, well, the thing is I've got a bit of a thing with a button. Most of them look something like this...

New Beginnings

It was back to school last week for me. I started an online class on Web Design & Development.

I'm not getting a huge amount of work at the moment, and emailing around to all different companies wasn't quite working. So the next step was to boost the brain, get educated to get more jobs. Treehouse is ridiculous. So great. I'm learning so much and improving my skills by just watching videos all day, pretty innovative way to learn.

I'm always following design trends online & looking out for what's new in the world of creating wonderful things. I feel like it makes me a better designer & I'm better equipped to tackle each individual job that a client throws at me. You also obviously have to do a fair bit of research to get into the mind & company of a client, so in-depth research for each new job is also critical. And it sometimes changes your creative path from your initial ones.

You should never stop learning whether it be a hobby, something to do with your job, actually going back to school or university or learning all those crazy statistics to pass for your full license. Like Nan always says, "Use it or loose it!"

A Whole Year!

Oops. Look at that.

Well I guess you could say time flies when you're having fun!

It's been a whole year since I posted last, and what a year it has been. I moved to Batemans Bay for a job, had a cute little apartment & a great view. But hey, that didn't work out at all. So after 6 months I moved back home! Got a new job, had lots of adventures, started sub-contracting and working from home, Christmas came along, then New Year, reached the one year milestone with some spunk who decided I was worth hanging around for a while (was that embarrassing, Dion?), the end of January, in the process of finding a place to live with the afore-mentioned 'spunk'... And now we're here. (Me) Trying to write a relevant blog post, (You) trying to figure out why you're still reading it...

Here's why.

Because you need design. Just one design, multiple designs, designs you never knew you needed until now, designs you still don't know you need but I'm going to convince you that you do. Designs for your new business, designs for your old stale 'word art created, out of date brochure & logo' business. You need designs that yell "LOOK AT ME!!!" without going to the extent of hiring the guy that used to do the Harvey Norman ads.

Watch this space for more reasons & more fun loving conversations between me & the internet!

In the mean time here are some of my latest creations.

Just a little bit of typography, I can do custom typography for anything you need.

Business Cards I designed for Matilda Lawns, complete with green edges by lovely Dee.

A design challenge for some fun at work.

Print Ad

Ad for Urban Outfitters Necklaces. My own photography & a little bit of typographic skill, if I do say so myself. And this is the wonderful outcome that will be featured in my Magazine.

Stationary & Leave Behind

The stationary set for Grace Simpson Design (business card, with compliments slip and letterhead) & a leave behind piece with samples of my work for job interviews. I'm really happy with how they turned out. It's very much my "style" & a little bit colourful.
